Autologous FAT Transfer (AFT) Or LIPOINJECTION

Autologous FAT transfer (AFT) or LIPOINJECTION

This newer modality of transferring one's own (autologous) fat to self has revolutionized the aesthetic/ cosmetic surgery. Body fat makes excellent soft tissue filler substance. AFT transfers fat from one part of the body to another to recontour the face or to fill out depressed scarred areas on any part of the body.

You may be a good candidate for AFT if you desire to:

How is the AFT performed ?

Fat is taken from an area (or area's) of the body where it may be unwanted and transplanted to area's of the face or body where it is needed.

Generally, local anaesthesia with IV sedation is used. Using special harvesting and transplantation techniques the fat is transferred to the desired area with minimum trauma to the fat cells. This ensures reliable survival and longer lasting effects of the procedure.

The procedure generally lasts for one hour.

You may have a small dressing at the donor site.

Post-oprative Course

AFT has excellent results but may produce significant swelling that may take 7 to 14 days to settle. Bruising usually fades quickly and can be camouflaged by 7 days. Most people can return to work by 5 - 7 days. Oral medications will be prescribed to keep you comfortable.

Results

The results of AFT can be a natural, permanent improvement in the shape of your face, cheek bone, eyebrows, lips or hands.
